We have been very busy in the classes this week with several Christmas Surprise Classes, the project will be revealed on Facebook on Wednesday after the last class of the year.

Bethany has been very busy making up some fabulous Gift sets which come in their own little storage case as well as some new Fat Packs.

We have a number of offers on Brother Sewing & Embroidery machines.

In store we will be having a Brother Dealer Event on Friday 14th or Saturday 15th December 10.30 - 3.30 pm.

We will be demonstrating a variety of Sewing and Embroidery Machines including the Brother Innovis XV,Overlockers, Software and a selection of Brother Accessories.

In addition to the Brother Offers there will be some extra offers from The Fat Quarters.

There is no need to book but if you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.

Brother Dealer Days

We have two Brother Dealer Days next week on Friday and Saturday, 10:30am-3:30pm.

An ideal opportunity to call in and check out all of the Brother offers that are running until the end of the year.

Kim will also be available to give you advice and help in selecting a New Sewing or Embroidery Machine, in addition to looking at the many available accessories which can be added to your existing machine. This also extends to the Brother software.

The windows are decorated and Bethany has organised a raffle in store

Christmas surprise classes

It's a cold and snowy Saturday morning here at Blackhall Mill! I just wanted to let everyone know that our Christmas Surprise classes are now available to book! If you haven't been to one before our a christmas Suprise classes are our favourite. You come along to the class and you don't know what project you will be making. Fabrics are provided in the class. We also have Christmas music and mince pies. The session is £20 per person. We have a de dates available.

What's happening this week at The Fat Quarters

We're nearly at the end of September and the weather is beginning to change and the nights are drawing in. We've had a lot of people in this week thinking about their Christmas projects. You get a FREE Six Penny Memories pattern when you buy 2 metres of fabric. Our sale is still on for 30% OFF fabric, FatPacks and fabric panels. I've just been setting up for our Macmillan coffee mornings next week. We are having them on Tuesday. Wednesday morning and Friday. We hope to raise a lot of money for Macmillan. We have demos, raffles and of course cake!! Pop in and say hi.

Well I cannot quite believe that the school summer holidays are over for another year!

This week we have been making plans for our Macmillan Event and thinking about our Autumn window displays.

It has also been a week of finishing quilt tops and handing them over to Allison who works her magic on our Gammil Longarm quilting machine.

We do offer a quilting service and for more details and prices just give us a call.

In store we have the an X-Demo Brother M280D Sewing and Embroidery Machine for sale at £699. This is a £200 saving, the machine has a 3 year warranty and full support from us.

New in store are the Prym Pom Pom and Tassel Makers. These are great fun and a perfect way to add an embellishment to your projects.

Brother Software Classes

Hello,

Do you have Brother software but aren't sure where to start? Would you like some help to make the most our of it? We have classes on Friday 26th October to help you.

If you have the PED PLUS or PED PLUS 2 you can come along to our morning session.10:15am-12pm. The class is £10.

If you have the PED 10 you can come along to our afternoon session. 1:15pm-3pm. The class is £10.

If you are interested in Brother software but would like to see how it's works and what it does before you buy then you can book into the class as well. It's the perfect opportunity for you to hear what others think and see what can be done using the software.

For the classes you will need to bring your laptop, software (ready to load or already loaded), dongle and a USB stick.

This week I have been working on the Brother Innovis V5, and in particular the Embroidery aspect of it. I have just completed a bag which is one of the projects for a class this week. Appliqué in the hoop is so easy on an Embroidery Machine and if you are passing the shop call in or keep checking our Facebook page for videos and finished projects.

Brother have a number of Special Offers which include the Innovis V5 reduced by £200 plus Free Premium Packs 1 & 2, and the Innovis 800E is reduced from £1299 to £999. Call in for a demo or give us a call for more information.

This week in store we have had a number of New arrivals from Prym. The Pom-Pom maker is not only fun, and slightly addictive, but fabulous as embellishments on Bags, cushions and more.

The Prym Vario Pliers are brilliant, they use both plastic and metal snaps and are great for bag closures, duvets and as I witnessed at the Festival of Quilts a ladies skirts that had the snaps down the front.

We also have the Thread Cutter, brilliant to cut threads whilst travelling, and we even tested it on wool and embroidery threads and it worked, and the Prym Needle Twister which include 15 gold eye needles.

The Class Lists have been updated until October if you can travel to the shop, and don’t forget there is still a 30% Discount on Fabric, Fabric Panels and Fabric Fat Packs in store and on the website.

Machine Embrodiery Bag

Hello,

Have you seen the photo of the machine embroidery bag? If not have a look, it's beautiful!

Kim has used the Sweet Pea Designs downloadable pattern. She chose the beautiful red linen fabric to give the bag a slightly heavier weight than cotton fabric. To make the bag stand up Vlieseline style-vil has been used in the middle which gives the bag body and makes it sturdy. If you squash the bag the style vil will spring back so the bag won't get all crumpled. Kim also used Vlieseline deco-vil light. To do the embroidery on the bag Kim used Vlieseline Stitch and Tear and Brother embroidery threads.

Brother Embrodiery threads are £2.30.
Vlieseline Style-Vil is £8 per metre.
Stitch and Tear is £3.50 per metre.

Learn how to mark out a design onto the fabric, which needles and thread to use and then how to hand quilt.

This is a very relaxing technique and is suitable for beginners.

Included in the class is the Sweet Pea design in multi formats and sizes for you to take away. Make a Centre Block in the Embroidery hoop with the option of continuing with the Block of the Month Program and produce a quilt or the block would make a Cushion or Bag front.

During each session there will be a masterclass on a Dressmaking technique, how to insert zips,
Make pleats, alter a dart, which Fabric is best for the pattern and more.
Then you will be able to work on a project you have selected.
Fancy making a Dress, Skirt or PJ's then we have a selection of patterns and Fabrics that you can choose from and throughout the process get help from our expert Dressmaking teacher.
All this for only £10 per session.

Prym Love Thread Cutter

This thread cutter from the Prym Love series is a stylish mint with white dots design. It can be hung as a necklace using the satin band, therefore making it easily accessible when sewing.

An integrated rotary cutter blade with 7 recesses allow you to easily cut thread whilst protecting the blade from damage and the user from injury. The blade is made of premium stainless steel. Perfect for travelling! Only £5.50.

Needle Twister

The Prym Needle twister comes in a range of colours- purple, orange and green. In each one you will get 15 gold eye needles in different sizes. Just twist up the handy tube to get your pins out. At the bottom of the tube is a magnet  which is handy for picking up your needles and it also means they won't talk out of the tube. Long Arm Quilting Service

Did u know we have a long arm quilting service? This service is perfect if you haven't got time to do the quilting yourself or would like it doing professionally for a gift. When you have finished your quilt top it's now ready to bring in to us. The quilt can't be any bigger than 100" x 100". If you have your own backing and wadding that's great you can bring it in but please make sure it is at least 6" bigger width and length ways than your quilt top. This is to allowing for any movement when quilting. If you don't have backing or wadding don't worry we have some here. The waddings we have are polyester, cotton and cotton/bamboo blend. We have a selection of extra wide backings available in a range of different colours. If you fancy a plain background we also have 120" wide moda calico in cream and white. When your quilt is with us Alison will quilt it and cut off any excess wadding and backing. We will let you know as soon as your quilt is ready to collect. The quilting price is dependant on the size of the quilt. For those of you who are new to The Fat Quarters I just wanted to tell you about about us and what we do.

We are small business about 10 miles outside of Newcastle Upon Tyne City centre. We are a patchwork and quilting shop who have been here for about 14 years. We have a large shop and a separate studio area for our classes. We stock lots of fabrics from Moda, Red Rooster, Thimbeleberries, Makower, Amy Butler, Andover, Dashwood, Lecien, Robert Kaufman and many more! We have 45" wide fabrics and also have extra wide fabrics which range from 110"-120" wide. We stock different types of waddings such a polyester, cotton and cotton/bamboo blend. We also sell a variety of Vliseline Interfacings. We have Moda Bakery with new styles coming in every month. We have books including Tilda, Amy Butler and Six Penny Memories. We also have a great selection of magazines such as 'SEW' magazine, Homespun and quilt mania. In the back section of the shop we have notions (needles, rotary cutters, rulers, scissors etc) as well as buttons, threads (including Aurifil), ribbons and bag making accesories. We have wool felt in a variety of colours, Soak for washing quilts and lots and lots of patterns for you to browse through and choose your next project.

We are open Tuesday- Saturday, 10am-4pm. CLOSED Sunday and Monday. Our website is always open when we aren't for you to browse and treat yourself to some new fabrics.

We run classes and workshops throughout the week for you to get on with work, learn new things and  try new skills. We have workshops where you can come along and work on your own project. Dressmaking

We had a very busy dressmaking class last week! Everyone is working on their own garments such as trousers, skirts and tops. If you fancy making your own clothes the next class is on Saturday 4th August, 10:15am-12:45pm. In the session you will be shown a skill or tip that will be handy to know while making your clothes. After this you will be able to make your garment with help and guidance when needed. Don't worry if you are a complete beginner, Wendy will be able to help you choose a simple pattern to get you started. The class is only £10!!

Our workshops

Hello,

As some of you may know we have workshops throughout the week for you to come along and work on you own project.

We have a large studio dedicated just to sewing that is separate from our shop. We offer coffee/tea on arrival and half way through the session. We have a place to iron so you can press your seams or straighten out your project as well as room to do cutting. We have car parking outside the shop and just across the road from the shop. If you need any help carrying anything we will be more than happy to help. We are also on a bus route from Newcastle (bus 47 or 10A) and from Consett (V9). If you are travelling by bus just ask the driver to tell you when you get to Blackhalk Mill. We are situated on the main road. During the workshops Kim will be here to answer any questions you may have about your project. Everyone who comes to the workshops are very friendly and it's a great way to get new ideas for your next project.

When you come to the workshop you will need to bring your Sewing Machine, sewing kit and everything you will need to do your work.

If you come to a workshops there are some discounts that you will be entitled to. 10% OFF purchases under £20. 15% OFF purchases over £20.
